Lorenzo de’ Medici, head of the Medici family and a key figure of the Renaissance, was invited to the 18th HRD International Jewelry Design Competition in Italy on January 22, 2023. He will also present the awards to the winners as a special guest.

The International Jewelry Design Competition (HRD) is a premier global event in jewelry innovation and a prestigious pearl design competition, often referred to as the “Oscar” of jewelry design. Held every two years, it attracts numerous designers from around the world, making it a highly anticipated jewelry event with international acclaim.

As the successor of the influential Medici family in the global art and fashion scene, Lorenzo expressed his great honor in participating in the event. He also looks forward to engaging in meaningful discussions with top designers about jewelry design innovation and development to advance global fashion trends.

The Medici family, often called the Godfathers of the Renaissance, discovered, funded, and protected numerous artists, scientists, and writers during this transformative period. Among their notable patrons were three Renaissance icons: Leonardo da Vinci, celebrated as the quintessential Renaissance man; Michelangelo Buonarroti, a master sculptor; and Sandro Botticelli, a pioneer of portraiture. They also supported Galileo Galilei, the father of modern physics, along with many philosophers, architects, and art theorists, helping to usher in a new era of art, economy, and technology.

The Medici family significantly influenced politics, economics, finance, and art, altering the course of human society. Two notable female heirs, Catherine de’ Medici, mother of King Charles IX of France, and Maria de’ Medici, mother of King Louis XIII, helped shape fashion trends across Europe and the world. The Medici family’s contributions have had a lasting impact not only on Italy and Europe but also on global culture.

Lorenzo de’ Medici of the Medici family inherited the legacy of his ancestor, known as “Lorenzo the Magnificent,” who was renowned for his artistic insight and talent. Committed to investing in art, he has collected works by some of history’s greatest geniuses, including Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Picasso, and Modigliani, with his art holdings valued at over $500 million. Additionally, he plays a significant role in the banking industry through the Medici International Bank, which he founded.
